Mold Maker

We, at Northfield Metal Products, a Leggett & Platt company, are searching for a Mold Maker to join our Toolroom team to help support our Work Furniture  business.  As a Mold Maker, you will be contributing to our Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in the work and home furniture industry.  From surface-critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, and backs, our Furniture Components business brings diverse world-class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high-quality products. So, what will you be doing as a Mold Maker?

• Interpret and work from technical blueprints, CAD models, and design specifications to plan and execute the fabrication, modification, and repair of injection mold components.
• Disassemble, clean, inspect, and repair existing molds and tooling, performing corrective adjustments as needed
• Set up, operate, and maintain machine tools—including CNC mills, grinders, lathes, and drill presses—to machine and assemble components for plastic injection molding tools
• Interpret and work from technical blueprints, CAD models, and design specifications to plan mold fabrication
• Perform regular quality checks using precision measuring instruments to ensure molds meet tolerances
• Document fabrication and maintenance activities, maintain mold inventories, and update repair histories
• Uphold workplace safety and housekeeping standards, adhering to health, safety, and operational procedures

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

• Minimum of 3 years of hands-on-experience in mold-making, tool and die work, or mold maintenance roles.
• Post Secondary Education in Tool & Die Making, Precision Machining, CAD/Tool Design
• Completion of a recognized apprenticeship or certification program

Things we consider a plus:

• Practical experience in diagnosing mold defects, performing maintenance, and trouble shooting during production
• Prior work in a manufacturing setting, repairing and optimizing injections molds, die casts, plating molds, die casts, plating molds or blow molds
• Deep understanding of mold-making processes
