Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking an Industrial Engineer for its Super Sagless Hardware branch in Tupelo, MS, which specializes in producing mechanisms for motion furniture such as recliners and rockers. As an Industrial Engineer you will have the opportunity to design efficient systems that integrate workers, machines, and information.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by preventing waste and inefficiency in production.  The team you will be working with is small but close knit, and values creativity and hard work. 

 

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Performs time studies to develop costing standards for products.
  • Attends NPI (New Product Introduction) builds and develop new process flow / standard work / labor content.
  • Identifies and leads process improvement activities on production lines.
  • Identities and implements proper material presentation / handling processes in production areas.
  • Develops / Maintains plant layouts.
  • Supports continuous improvement activities through data collection and project participation.
  • Work closely with management to establish sustainable Lean practices that empower

          employees, accelerate change, and enable personal and team development.

  • Formulates and recommends manufacturing processes and procedures, layout, and material handling methods.
  • Provides advice, compiles data, and determines probable costs for process improvement projects.
  • Makes sure the company complies with all industry standards for safety while meeting design standards and guidelines.
  • Helps the company meet its Quality and Safety objectives.
  • Completes time studies and root cause analyses
  • Initiates process improvements for accurate time standards, job costing, capacity planning and operator accountability
  • Maintains costing database
  • Provides technical input to the management team for short- and long-term planning
  • Evaluates productivity reports such as labor variances when called upon as to causes for high and low performance of any department.
  • Performs work samples to develop standards for labor utilization.
  • Develops new methods and processes to improve productivity and/or quality.
  • Estimates production times, staffing requirements and related costs to provide information for management decisions.
  • Provides technical expertise to all departments and support their needs.
  • Performs quarterly scrap audits in automatic press department.
  • Maintains routing and BOM system in LPCS for product costing
  • Other duties may also be assigned.

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related engineering field or equivalent combined education and experience.
  • 2‐3 years’ experience in fast paced assembly manufacturing environment
  • Experience with AutoCAD / SolidWorks preferred.
  • Proficiency in a Windows operating environment, including email and Microsoft Office software.
  • Basic statistical knowledge and ability to apply statistics to process improvement projects.
  • Proven effective leadership and program management skills.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills and the ability to exercise influence without authority.
