Job Title:

Accounting Analyst / Billing Clerk

Overview:

Contribute to Sterling Steel safely producing high quality products at the lowest cost by

correctly and timely processing freight vendor invoices and customer billing.

Responsibilities & Duties:

  • Receive and review Shipping paperwork
  • Verify prices and shipment type on paperwork match entries in LPCS; research variances
  • Electronically send information to corporate accounting for payment processing
  • Receive packing slips from Central Storage and verify POs and receive shipment online
  • Send any unmatched packing slips to Purchasing for further review
  • Answer vendor calls regarding payment dates
  • Physically match paper copies of invoices with appropriate shipment paper
  • Make note of correct accounting distribution on invoice, scan and electronically send to corporate accounting office for processing
  • Enter and update journal entries in Excel using established pivot tables and formulas
  • Provide support or coverage to other positions in SSC Accounting department
  • Maintain physical files
  • Work on special projects when assigned
  • Continuously manage workload to ensure assigned tasks are completed by daily, weekly and monthly deadlines
  • Professionally communicate with employees, vendors, customers and corporate office via phone, email or in person
  • Communicate with Supervisor regarding assignments, training and questions
  • Efficiently utilize work time including self-assignment of  productive work without direct supervision
  • Consistently report to work as scheduled
  • Follow all related SJPs
  • Adhere to all SSC Policies and work rules
  • Comply with all SSC Safety rules
  • All other duties as assigned

 

Experience/Education:

  • 1-5 years work experience with at least a portion being in a professional office setting
  • Previous billing experience preferred
  • Exposure to manufacturing billing a plus
  • High school diploma required

 

Knowledge/Skills:

  • General understanding of billing and POs and basic math calculations
  • Proficient or advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Excel
  • Above average attention to detail and accurate data entry skills
  • Effective organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task in in fast-paced environment while remaining focused regardless of nearby distractions
  • Able to collaborate with and support a variety of personalities on the Accounting team and throughout the Company
  • Work effectively independently or with others with and without direct supervision
  • Outgoing enough to initiate conversations in person or on phone
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to effectively read, write, understand, and otherwise communicate in English
  • Willingness and ability to learn, retain and apply new information

 

Physical Demands:

  • Dexterity to operate office equipment
  • Able to work seated at a desk working on computer for the majority of the day
  • Strength and stamina to maneuver around the administrative office
  • Able to drive to and walk in Shipping to retrieve paperwork occasionally
  • Lift up to 15 pounds
