Reports To:  Maintenance Supervisor     Currently located in Spring Hill, FL and will relocate to Plant City, FL in Q1, 2023.

 

Basic Functions: The Maintenance Technician is an hourly, indirect classification which provides plant-wide mechanical services.  This includes the maintenance of production equipment and facilities.  The Maintenance Technician provides production operation support, including setup and changeovers, and operator support.  This position assists with the design and fabrication of new tooling and process equipment.

 

Primary Duties:

 

  • Perform all tasks with the following priority: Safety, Quality, and Production.
  • Work effectively with a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Ensure operation of machinery and mechanical equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on pneumatic tools, conveyor systems, motors, and production machines.
  • Follow diagrams, sketches, operations manuals, manufacturer's instructions, and engineering specifications to troubleshoot malfunctions.
  • Perform mechanical maintenance of plant utilities and support equipment (piping, plumbing, air compressors, electrical, and HVAC).
  • Locate sources of problems by observing mechanical devices in operation, listening for problems, and using precision measuring and testing instruments.
  • Remove defective parts by dismantling devices, using hoists, cranes, and hand and power tools.
  • Determine changes in dimensional requirements of parts by inspecting used parts, using rules, calipers, micrometers, and other measuring instruments.
  • Adjust functional parts of devices and control instruments by using hand tools, levels, plumb bobs, and straightedges.
  • Maintain equipment, parts, and supplies inventories by checking stock to determine inventory level. Anticipate needed equipment, parts, and supplies. Place and expedite orders as necessary. Verify receipt of items and update inventory.
  • Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with 6S practices.
  • Perform production machine quality adjustments based on quality statistics and reject information.
  • Assist with the installation of new machines.
  • Learn, understand, and practice the policies and procedures for LP9000:2011 Management System, and Continuous Process Improvement (CPI).
  • Initiate action to prevent the occurrence of any nonconformity related to product, process, and the quality management system.
  • Identify and/or record any problems relating to the product, process, and the quality management system.
  • Initiate, recommend, or provide solutions through designated channels. Verify the implementation of solutions.
  • Control further processing, delivery, or installation of non-conforming product until the deficiency or unsatisfactory condition has been corrected.
  • Safe operation of a forklift.
  • Work at heights exceeding 32 feet.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Must have comprehensive skills and knowledge of mechanical systems, power transmission, lubrication, plumbing and pipe fitting, preventative maintenance, hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems; and have the ability to maintain production machinery and contribute to improvements in production machine operation.  Must have the ability to work independently on identifying machine problems and initiating corrective actions.
  • Must be able to use tools of the trade, including hand tools, drill presses, grinders, tool room equipment, other bench tools, welders, pipe fitting tools, and precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be able to read, write and perform math required for mechanical calculations and dimensioning.  Must be able to read technical drawings and specifications.  Must be able to work effectively on assigned projects with a minimum of technical guidance and supervision.
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including ability, without assistance, to climb ladders, lift parts up to 75lbs., perform work in confined spaces, and like functions consistent with required maintenance activities.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years of related industrial experience or Journeyman mechanic status, or equivalent.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.  Additional technical and vocational education is desirable.
