At Leggett & Platt's L&C Changsha Cable Industries Ltd., we specialize in the development and manufacturing of high-quality wire and cable solutions that support a wide range of industries globally. Our Engineering team plays a vital role in driving innovation, improving manufacturing processes, enhancing product quality, and supporting operational excellence. By working closely with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams, our engineers help ensure safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations while delivering products that meet the highest customer standards.

 

In This Role:

As an Engineering Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment and contribute to real engineering projects that support cable production and continuous improvement initiatives. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to analyze production processes, support product and process improvements, and assist with technical problem-solving. This internship is ideal for someone who is curious, analytical, and eager to develop practical engineering skills within a global manufacturing organization.

 

So, what will you be doing as an Engineering Intern?

  • Assist engineers with process improvement projects aimed at increasing productivity, quality, and operational efficiency.
  • Support data collection and analysis related to production performance, equipment reliability, and manufacturing processes.
  • Participate in troubleshooting activities to identify root causes of production issues and recommend corrective actions.
  • Assist in developing and updating engineering documentation, work instructions, process specifications, and technical reports.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives through inspections, testing, and analysis of manufacturing processes and product performance.
  • Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams on continuous improvement projects.
  • Help evaluate manufacturing equipment, tooling, and production methods to identify opportunities for optimization.
  • Participate in Lean Manufacturing and operational excellence initiatives focused on waste reduction and process standardization.
  • Support engineering teams with project planning, implementation, and performance tracking activities.
  • Observe and follow all company safety, environmental, and quality standards.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret technical data.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment.
  • Interest in manufacturing processes, engineering design, product development, or continuous improvement.
  • Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn in a hands-on production environment.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic setting.
  • Ability to work onsite at L&C Changsha Cable Industries Ltd. in Changsha, China.

 

Things we consider a plus:

  • Exposure to manufacturing, production, or industrial environments through coursework, projects, or prior internship experience.
  • Familiarity with CAD software such as AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar engineering design tools.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Experience working with engineering drawings, technical specifications, or process documentation.
  • Understanding of quality systems, root cause analysis, and problem-solving tools.
  • Basic knowledge of ERP or manufacturing management systems.
  • Experience using data analysis and visualization tools to support engineering decision-making.
