Leggett & Platt Incorporated is seeking to hire a Maintenance Superintendent to oversee the maintenance department, ensure equipment reliability, minimize downtime, and maintain a safe and efficient operation. This role manages maintenance personnel, preventive maintenance programs, and continuous improvement initiatives to support production goals. This position will report directly to the Branch Manager

So, what will you be doing as a Maintenance Superintendent?

Lead and Supervise in the following areas:

Maintenance Operations

  • Oversee all maintenance activities (preventive, predictive, and corrective)
  • Ensure equipment uptime and reliability for production operations
  • Coordinate emergency repairs and troubleshoot critical issues
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop and manage preventive maintenance (PM) schedules
  • Implement predictive maintenance techniques (vibration analysis, thermography, etc.)
  • Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) 
  • Continuously improving maintenance strategies to reduce failures
  • PM (Preventive Maintenance) Compliance Rate 

Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and company safety standards
  • Conduct safety audits, inspections, and training
  • Enforce lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and safe work practices
  • Maintain environmental and regulatory compliance

Budget & Cost Control

  • Control labor, parts, and external contractor costs
  • Ensure efficient use of resources and minimize waste

Continuous Improvement

  • Drive reliability improvement initiatives
  • Participate in root cause analysis (RCA) for equipment failures
  • Support Lean, Six Sigma, and TPM programs
  • Identify opportunities for process and equipment improvements

Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Manage relationships with external vendors and contractors
  • Coordinate service contracts and repair equipment
  • Ensure quality and cost-effectiveness of outsourced work

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or related field
    (Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • 5–10+ years of maintenance experience in manufacturing or industrial environment
  • 3–5+ years in a leadership or supervisory role
  • Experience managing maintenance teams and budgets
  • Strong background in mechanical, electrical, and/or automation systems
  • Knowledge of industrial equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, PLCs, and controls
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
  • Understanding of preventive and predictive maintenance programs
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings
  • Strong leadership, communication, and team-building abilities
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Effective problem-solving and decision-making skills
  • Strong understanding of OSHA regulations and safety practices
  • Experience with LOTO, hazard analysis, and risk mitigation

 

Things we consider a plus:

  • Certification in maintenance/reliability (e.g., CMRP)
  • Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma certification
  • Experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • SAP or other advanced CMMS system experience
