We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Director of Continuous Improvement to help support our global businesses.

As a Director of Continuous Improvement, you will have the opportunity to lead enterprise‑level Lean transformations and coach leaders at all levels in building a world‑class continuous improvement culture. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by strengthening the Leggett Operating System (LOS), improving operational performance, and enabling sustainable growth. The team you will be working with is collaborative, forward‑thinking, and deeply committed to operational excellence and continuous learning.

 

So, what will you be doing as a Director of Continuous Improvement?

  • Coach leaders at all levels to build high‑performing Lean value streams and strengthen daily operating rhythms.
  • Develop Operational Excellence and Change Leaders to enhance Lean capability and change management effectiveness.
  • Lead structured Gemba walks to reinforce Daily Management, standard work, takt attainment, and problem‑solving discipline.
  • Facilitate Value Stream Mapping and partner with teams to drive waste elimination, flow improvement, and future‑state design.
  • Collaborate with Value Stream leaders to execute transformation plans that improve growth, productivity, margin, and capacity.
  • Lead Lean transformation roadmaps using RIEs, A3s, JDIs, and Daily Management systems.
  • Ensure rigor in CI event preparation, execution, and sustainment across the organization.
  • Design and deliver Lean capability‑building programs (A3, problem solving, Kanban, Kaizen, VSM, 5S, etc.).
  • Support performance management through target setting, metric tracking, and adherence to standard operating processes.
  • Partner cross‑functionally on new product launches and support EHS initiatives through safe work practices.

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor of Science degree or related discipline preferred, or equivalent education, training, and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of demonstrated world‑class Lean manufacturing experience.
  • Deep expertise in Lean manufacturing tools and methodologies, with a strong Gemba‑based coaching orientation.
  • Knowledge of Lean‑related safety requirements and manufacturing standards.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio).
  • Proven ability to lead cultural changes in environments with varying levels of Lean maturity.
  • Strong facilitation, mentoring, and coaching capability across all organizational levels.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with the ability to communicate effectively with both senior leadership and production teams.
  • Ability to prioritize effectively and operate in a fast‑paced, evolving environment.

Things we consider a plus

  • Advanced Lean certifications or formal CI training
  • Experience in multi‑site or enterprise‑level Lean deployment
  • Experience in manufacturing environments with varying Lean maturity levels
