As a Commodity Manager you will have the opportunity to work with multiple business units.  Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by providing recommendations on cost-saving strategies.  The team you will be working with is cohesive, collaborative, and values the diversity of a large organization

So, what will you be doing as a Commodity Manager?

  • Rationalize the supplier base through the solicitation of competitive bids.
  • Put together competitive RFQ’s, analyze received quotations, select, or recommend new suppliers.
  • Conduct analysis of market conditions and trends and use this information to predict commodity pricing and availability.
  • Develop and implement commodity strategies to create an efficient supply chain, leverage spend/volume across multiple business units, and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Develop and negotiate companywide nation/global supply contracts with critical suppliers by working with BU procurement leadership, corporate legal, and suppliers. 
  • Analyze the effect that sourcing, and supply decisions have on total business costs (internal and the supply chain).  Ability to evaluate different supply route options e.g. from single part to build package to determine optimum cost route using appropriate evaluation tools.
  • Analyze and implement innovative supply opportunities that deliver best total cost of ownership position – part, freight, cost of quality, working capital (payment terms), and inventory.
  • Develop and implement cost savings projects and initiatives to meet savings objectives.
  • Review and resolve any discrepancies with supplier invoices, grievances, claims, conflicts, product non-conformance or quality issues.
  • Provide goods & services projections to key suppliers to ensure product availability.
  • Coordinate the exchange of technical information regarding product and product processing with adequate safeguards and confidentiality.
  • Participation on cross functional teams to address and resolve problems.
  • Support goals and objectives as established by procurement management.
  • Experience with the following commodities a plus:
    • Packaging
      • Corrugated
      • Paper/plup
      • Lumber
      • Pallets
      • Ancillary Packaging
    • Film (PP, LLDPE, LDPE, HDPE, Stretch & Shrink film)
    • Small Package Freight FedEx/UPS

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • BS or BA in Business Administration, Purchasing, or Supply Chain Management
  • CPM, CPSM, CSM, or Equivalent Preferred
  • 5+ years purchasing
  • Operational experience a plus
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize multiple projects in an efficient manner
  • Willingness to be flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced environment
  • Able to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Excellent written and communication skills
  • Excellent negotiation skills
  • Capable of initiating and monitoring projects with limited supervision
  • Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with MS Office
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 20%
