The Purchasing Manager at Leggett & Platt is a hands-on position that requires someone to work tactically with a large volume of purchase requirements. This person is responsible for directing and coordinating the activities of the Supply Chain Specialists in the purchasing of direct materials centrally for our 3 plant locations. The focus of this role is to develop a metric-driven cost discipline capability within the company to drive exceptional results and new behaviors in the business. The Purchasing Manager will drive the procurement group in management of third-party suppliers, raw material inventory, and on-time delivery or goods.
The Purchasing Manager is responsible to manage and mentor a dynamic team of purchasing professionals. This will include but not be limited to the following:
- Establish measurable performance metrics for internal order placement performance, buyer activity levels, and material shortage elimination
- Manage material flow to ensure inventory is maintained to the optimum level to support on time customer deliveries
- Continually monitor on-hand inventory, open orders, and forecast to increase inventory turns
- Lead the development and implementation of documented processes within the procurement group
- Drive implementation and reporting progress against procurement goals to senior leadership
- Support internal collaboration, knowledge sharing, compliance with best practices, and established category management process
- Help set goals/objectives aligned to business’ goals, coordinate external procurement activities, and monitor KPIs against strategic goals.
- Support sharing of best practices, internal collaboration, communications knowledge sharing and compliance with procurement processes.
Minimum qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain or Business Management (or a related field)
- 7-10 years of progressive Procurement and or Inventory Management experience
- Above average understanding of complex supply chain networks, lead times, materials consolidation, and freight costs
- Ability to effectively work with manufacturing partners to ensure production goals are met
- Proven track record of working with multiple stakeholders (e.g. business units, functions and regions) to deliver results in a highly matrixed organization
- Strong business and financial acumen
