We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Manager of Project Engineering within our Engineering team to help support our Home Furniture  business.  Our Home Furniture business brings an intense focus on the customer, innovation, world-class manufacturing capabilities, and a global footprint together to create full package solutions for the industry.  We do not make furniture.  We make furniture more comfortable.  We need the best people on our team to support our strategy, and your work will ensure people around the world have a little more comfort in their lives.

 

As a Manager of Project Engineering, you will have the opportunity to lead the project management, product testing, and engineering support roles in a global product development environment.  This role connects product development activities within the Innovation & Commercialization team, across the business unit functions, and with customers.  Successful product launches with customers is a key goal this leadership role is responsible for.  The team you will be working with is collaborative, innovative, analytical, and values challenging work and diversity of thought

 

So, what will you be doing as a Manager of Project Engineering?

  • Accountable for the project management function during the development & launch stages of product development.  Lead projects personally as needed.
  • Serve as point of contact for internal and external customers providing communication of project status, issues, and mitigation plans to achieve project requirements.
  • Accountable for product testing/validation during the product development phase.  Drive activities to improve test methods, data collection and similar to ensure solutions achieve details key customers require.
  • Accountable for engineering data management systems working with Engineering Systems and Product Lifecycle Management teams.
  • Develop, implement & support engineering tools, knowledge management and similar along with the Engineering Systems teams.
  • Accountable for new product introduction activities that support internal and external resources.  Foster activities that lead to learning/understanding of new products, customer integration and adoption, and lead to sales growth.
  • 20% travel domestic and international

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Operations, Business, or similar preferred.  Alternate degree and relevant experience will be considered.
  • 3+ years of experience in a full life-cycle project management role required;  Leading cross functional teams, hosting meetings, tracking progress against project KPIs, driving on-time execution of actions, successful handoff to operations
  • 3+ years of experience in a people leadership role required: Leading a pro-active, multi-skilled technical team (project managers, engineering, test engineering, data management or similar)
  • 3+ years of experience in a consumer product, technical, or B2B environment preferred
  • Proven ability to lead cross functional teams in a matrix/network organization without direct supervision
  • Experience successfully managing multiple complex projects
  • Proven ability to lead technical resources in a product development, testing or similar environment and manage direct reports
  • Ability to speak, read and write English
