Electro Mechanical Engineer

Leggett & Platt, Inc. is seeking an Electro-Mechanical Engineer to drive end-to-end product design solutions to deliver finished consumer products.  You will generate concepts, create finished products, validate solutions, participate in project teams, and support production launch processes.  This role engages with many areas of the business unit including sales, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support.  This position can be located in Kansas City or Carthage, MO.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop electromechanical systems for the motion furniture industry
  • Integrate electronic and mechanical systems together to create finished product designs
  • Drive design architecture for electronics and mechanical systems to create new sleep related product solutions
  • Drive Design for Cost (DFC), Manufacturability (DFM), and Quality (DFQ) elements into product designs
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop new concepts, systems, and material applications
  • Work within a team to create specifications for new concepts and evaluate prototypes
  • Complete DFMEA reviews with cross-functional teams
  • Perform stress analysis using engineering theory as well as computational FEA tools
  • Ensure proper fit and function through tolerance and stack up analysis of parts
  • Review regulation standards and work with test laboratories to certify products
  • Develop test equipment and procedures to model real world use cases
  • Support system level and finished product level testing to validate reliability
  • Apply statistical methods to analyze component and system reliability
  • Analyze warranty and usage data to identify opportunities for product improvement

 

What we’re looking for:

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE), Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) or equivalent
  • 2+ years of engineering experience
  • Demonstrated experience in multi-disciplined product design
  • Demonstrated experience in many of the listed responsibilities
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally, at times with limited notice
  • Demonstrated communication skills with customers and suppliers
  • Self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to present reasonable solutions given incomplete or extrapolated information
  • Six Sigma experience preferred
  • Experience with statistical analysis tools
  • Ability to translate technical details into big picture terminology
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
