In This Role:

As a Quality Intern, you'll gain valuable hands-on experience in quality assurance, process improvement, and manufacturing quality systems. You'll work alongside experienced quality professionals to monitor product quality, analyze manufacturing data, support investigations into quality concerns, and contribute to initiatives that improve processes and customer satisfaction. This internship is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, analytical, and interested in building a career in quality, manufacturing, or engineering.

 

So, what will you be doing as a Quality Intern?

  • Assist with product inspections and quality verification activities throughout the manufacturing process.
  • Support data collection and analysis related to defects, scrap, rework, and other key quality performance indicators.
  • Participate in root cause analysis and corrective action activities to address quality issues.
  • Help maintain quality documentation, inspection records, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Assist with internal audits and compliance reviews to ensure adherence to quality standards and manufacturing requirements.
  • Collaborate with Production, Engineering, and Operations teams to identify and implement process improvements.
  • Support quality testing, validation activities, and measurement system evaluations.
  • Help prepare quality reports, presentations, and performance dashboards for management and team reviews.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing waste, improving efficiency, and enhancing product quality.
  • Observe and follow all company safety, environmental, and quality policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Quality Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to analyze data and identify trends or improvement opportunities.
  • Interest in quality systems, manufacturing processes, and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to work onsite at Leggett & Platt's Zhaoqing L&V4 facility in Zhaoqing, China.

 

Things we consider a plus:

  • Previous internship, project, or coursework experience in manufacturing, quality, or engineering environments.
  • Knowledge of quality tools such as 5 Whys, Fishbone Diagrams, Pareto Analysis, SPC, or FMEA.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement principles.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, or product requirements.
  • Understanding of quality management systems such as ISO 9001 and IATF 16949.
  • Experience using measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, or gauges.
  • Exposure to ERP systems, quality databases, or manufacturing software.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Minitab, or similar platforms.
