At Leggett & Platt's Zhaoqing L&V4, our Manufacturing Engineering team plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, process efficiency, and product quality across our manufacturing operations. By partnering with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams, Manufacturing Engineering helps optimize processes, improve productivity, reduce waste, and support the safe and efficient production of world-class products. In This Role:
As a Production / Manufacturing Engineering Intern, you'll gain hands-on experience working in a fast-paced manufacturing environment while supporting engineering projects that improve production processes and operational performance. You'll collaborate with experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to analyze manufacturing data, solve production challenges, and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives. This internship is ideal for someone who is analytical, proactive, and interested in building a career in manufacturing, operations, or industrial engineering.
So, what will you be doing as a Production / Manufacturing Engineering Intern?
- Assist with manufacturing process improvement projects focused on safety, quality, productivity, and cost reduction.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret production data to identify trends and opportunities for operational improvement.
- Support production line optimization efforts, including workflow analysis and process standardization.
- Participate in troubleshooting manufacturing issues and assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions.
- Help develop and update process documentation, work instructions, SOPs, and engineering reports.
- Collaborate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, and Supply Chain teams to improve manufacturing performance.
- Assist with evaluating equipment, tooling, and production methods to identify opportunities for efficiency gains.
- Support Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing waste and increasing operational effectiveness.
- Participate in project planning, implementation, and monitoring activities related to manufacturing improvements.
- Assist with tracking and reporting key performance indicators (KPIs) related to production, quality, and efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with company safety, quality, and environmental standards and procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
To Be Successful in This Role, You'll Need:
- Currently pursuing a degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Operations Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing setting.
- Interest in manufacturing processes, production systems, and continuous improvement.
- Strong attention to detail and a willingness to learn through hands-on experience.
- Ability to interpret and work with data to support decision-making and process improvements.
- Ability to work onsite at Leggett & Platt's Zhaoqing L&V4 facility in Zhaoqing, China.
Things We Consider a Plus:
- Prior internship, project, or coursework experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, Kaizen, or other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Experience with CAD software, manufacturing process design, or industrial engineering tools.
- Knowledge of root cause analysis techniques and problem-solving methodologies.
- Exposure to ERP systems such as SAP or similar manufacturing management systems.
- Familiarity with production planning, workflow optimization, and equipment performance analysis.
- Experience using data analysis and visualization tools such as Power BI, Minitab, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of quality systems, safety principles, and manufacturing best practices.
