We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor within our Work Furniture – Genesis Seating team to help support our Work Furniture business. In our Furniture Components business, we design, manufacture, and distribute a wide range of components and finished products that enhance comfort, motion, and style in upholstered furniture, including recliner mechanisms, seating support systems, and sofa sleeper units. With a global footprint that includes international manufacturing, product development, distribution, and sales, we are strategically positioned to support upholstered furniture manufacturers around the world.
Leggett & Platt is North America’s leading independent manufacturer of office furniture components and mechanisms. Our Work Furniture business produces task and finished components, as well as select lines of private‑label finished seating. From surface‑critical bent tube assemblies and molded plywood components to chair mechanisms, bases, arms, seats, and backs, Work Furniture brings diverse world‑class manufacturing capabilities together in the production and assembly of high‑quality contract furniture products.
As a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor, you will have the opportunity to lead and develop a team of production employees while driving safety, quality, delivery, and efficiency on the shop floor. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by ensuring on‑time order completion, optimizing labor utilization, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen our operational performance. The team you will be working with is collaborative, hands‑on, and committed to problem‑solving, continuous improvement, and delivering high‑quality products to our customers.
So, what will you be doing as a 2nd Shift Production Supervisor?
- Training employees on all safety requirements and enforcing safety protocols
- Maintaining compliance with safety audits and serving as the first point of contact for injury reporting
- Ensuring adherence to quality system documentation and communicating quality concerns
- Auditing and maintaining employee training records and developing training plans
- Interpreting product specifications, control plans, and work instructions
- Analyzing scrap and leading action plans to reduce waste
- Coordinating labor resources to meet production schedules and achieve 100% on‑time delivery
- Communicating material shortages or quality issues to the materials team
- Defining staffing needs, assigning duties, and optimizing workflow
- Recommending improvements in methods, equipment, and working conditions
- Supporting shop‑floor improvements using KATA and other continuous improvement tools
- Reviewing labor sheets and reconciling payroll hours
- Motivating team members and encouraging engagement and suggestions
- 2nd shift hours are 3:30pm-2:00am
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- 1–3 years of related experience or training
- Minimum 2 years in a lead or supervisory role
- Strong communication and collaboration skills
- Strong project management, time management, and organizational abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint emphasized)
- Experience with ERP and WMS systems
- Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements
- Ability to safely operate or train others on HILO equipment
- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to stay composed in a fast‑paced environment
Things we consider a plus:
- 2–3 years of UPH and sewing manufacturing environment experience
- Continuous improvement or KATA experience
- Experience supporting new product development
- Demonstrated success motivating and coaching teams
