Hiring for Davidson Plyforms - 1st Shift 5AM-3:30PM / 2nd shift 3:30PM - 2AM - Monday through Thursday with OT on Fridays as needed. This is for a Finish Line Operator. We are looking to hire 3 people for this role - 2 for 1st shift, and 1 for 2nd shift.

Finishing Operator
Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is looking for someone to be a Finishing Operator at our Davidson Plyforms location in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Monday-Thursday 5am-3:30pm and Fridays as needed
Summary:
The finishing operator is responsible to operate the finishing line in an efficient manner, perform secondary operations as needed or assigned, follow all procedures, complete paperwork accurately, and perform job set-ups as needed and pursue training opportunities which further job skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Other duties may be assigned)
- Beginning of the shift: Check routing/E-schedule for:
- open balances on current jobs
- any needed or special instructions to run current job
- Be sure area is setup with all necessary materials and equipment.
- Run 1st cycle on each job and complete a 1st piece inspection.
While running production:
- Sanding, cleaning, and preparation of exposed grade plywood surface using orbital sander and other tools up to 220 grit.
- Identify and repair typical wood flaws such as lathe checking, flaking, veneer tear-out, orbital swirl marks, voids, etc.
- Use of putty, lightning bond, and other materials as required.
- Loading and unloading parts from the finishing line. This will include changing the hooks as required.
- Sealer sanding as required. Typically, a part needs to be sealer sanded with 400 grit sandpaper after the part has been sprayed with the first coat of varnish.
- Load and unload parts from the laser etching machine.
- Pack finished parts properly before moving them to shipping.
- Be responsible for meeting production rate and quality standards.
- Disposal of linseed oil rags.
Shift end:
- Clean up work area.
- Return any tools/fixtures/etc. to their proper locations if not being used in production.
As required:
- Ensure hooks are in good operating condition.
- Bring any hooks for repair into the tool room.

A few things you’ll need:
- Be familiar with and able to utilize a tape measure, ruler, and micrometers.
- Demonstrate basic math skills.
- Be knowledgeable with the decimal system.
- Candidate must be capable of utilizing software in day-to-day work and be able to use shop measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height gage, pin gages, and tape measure.
