Case Cleaner

 

Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking a Case Cleaner/Sander at our Genesis Seating location in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This position will be located at the Davidson Plyforms Facility (5505 33rd St. SE Grand Rapids MI 49512)

 

REPORTS TO: Plant Manager

HOURS: 5AM - 3:30PM Mon-Thurs, Overtime as needed on Fridays. 

 

SUMMARY: Responsible for ensuring safety, quality, delivery and production standards are met as they relate to any task they have been assigned.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Wood/veneer Sanding
  • Ensure all safety standards are being followed and unsafe acts or conditions are reported.
  • Maintain the work area’s cleanliness and organization.
  • Responsible for ensuring specified quality verifications and procedures are followed and quality parts are produced.
  • Communicate quality concerns/issues with Product Coordinator, management, engineering and materials
  • Interprets product specifications, prints, control plans, work instructions, process maps and production schedules with assistance as necessary.
  • Occasionally handle customer calls regarding scheduling, delivery or quality issues.
  • Meets production schedules.
  • Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality and safety methods.
  • Suggests changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency
  • Analyzes and resolves work problems or works with team members in solving work problems.
  • Initiates or suggests ideas to help team members achieve work goals.
  • Confers with other team members to meet production schedules.
  • Coordinate with members of the team to operate the cell most efficiently.
  • Reports direct and indirect labor times, production quantities and throughput measurements as required.
  • Responsible for filling out required paperwork.
  • Ensure preventive maintenance is performed as required.
  • Assists in purchasing production materials when necessary.
  • Receive and inspect production materials when needed.
  • Responsible for understanding and following the non-conforming product procedure.
  • Responsible for completion and accuracy of cycle counts as needed.
  • Responsible for pursuing further training opportunities for one's own self advancement.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: 

One to three months’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS: 

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and product information books. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

 Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

 

REASONING ABILITY: 

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.  Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

 

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

 

The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
