This position is responsible for the following:
- Timely repairs
- Parts and machine assembly
- Maintenance of machinery to reduce and eliminate down-time
- Assist in keeping equipment operational
- Performing preventative maintenance and inspection tasks on machinery as well as assist in the completion of facility work orders
Mechanics are to perform other maintenance functions as directed by the Maintenance Manager and Maintenance Supervisor, aiming for maximum reliability and functionality with attention to details.
Must-haves for this position:
- Adhere to lock-out/tag-out procedures and maintain a strong safety orientation and record.
- Must have good attendance
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and flex schedule as needed
- Be able to read, write, and count correctly
- Basic Math, English, and Computer skills
- Be able to follow both written and verbal work instruction
- Have good communication skills and be able to work with people within and from different departments in an office and manufacturing environment
- Be detail oriented and well organized
- Be able to change tasks, prioritize, and re-prioritize frequently and able to follow-up on work tasks as needed in a timely manner
- Be able to bend, twist, push, pull, and lift (Up to 50lbs; anything heavier than that should be a two-person lift)
- Be able to climb stairs and ladders
- Work in tight / confined spaces
- Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) when applicable
- Must have manual dexterity and must be able to work with various machines and tools to ensure functionality and reliability of machines, engines, and mechanical systems.
- Must be mechanically inclined and have genuine interest in mechanical work, problem solving and repairs
- Must be self-motivated to keep busy and promote teamwork; when one task is complete, communicate with the Maintenance Supervisor to find another task
- Maintenance personnel should have very minimum downtime; there is always something to be done.
- Must have their own basic mechanics tools
- Wrenches, screw drivers, channel locks, hammer, rachets/sockets, tape measure
- Impact and drills
- Flashlights
- Loto Locks on your person at all times

- Radio on your person at all times
- Must be familiar and have a basic understanding of pneumatic systems and components
- Have working knowledge and ability to repair conveyor beltings, gearboxes, chains, and sprockets
- Forklift Operation required; must obtain and carry a valid certification and adhere to required regulations and training requirements
- Abilities to perform basic forklift repair and maintenance
- Must work in an uncontrolled temperature environment
- Must work around hot ovens as well as items that use open flames to turn on heat (IE Cutting Torch, Grinder, Furnace etc.)
- Must have non-slip footwear (composite or Steel-Toe preferred). All shoes must have good tread on them and maintained
- Must be able to read and follow drawings and blueprints
- Must have minor fabrication ability
- Ability to arc weld & MIG weld
- Use of cutting torch
- Cut, thread and install pipe
- Hydraulics knowledge
- Must have minor electrical knowledge
- Ohming a fuse/motor
- Resetting drives
- Checking for voltage
Plus:
- Computer skills including knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, a plus
- Complete and turn in daily work logs and other forms such as: Work Orders, Zone Audit corrections, and/or training documents in a timely manner and notify supervisor of any problems or delays
- Mechanics are responsible for installing, repairing, and maintaining with minimal downtime, the following:
- Machinery equipment
- Physical structures
- Pipes
- Electrical and hydraulic systems
- Always ensure that equipment is operating correctly once the job is completed before you leave the area.
- Maintain a clean work area; tasks are not considered complete until clean-up is done
- Responsible for communicating and assisting in the preventive and predictive maintenance in the production area
- Troubleshoot problems with equipment, and with repair, as needed
- Construction and/or renovations when necessary
- Ensure use of all guards and pre-use inspections of hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment and ladders prior to use is a must to ensure safety
- Must learn basics of Fire Suppression System Control Valves to assist in quick action and responses
- the proper storage of these items within the facility
- Handle Used Oils, Absorbent Materials, and any other oils in a manner compliant with proper labeling and disposal practices required by regulation and in coordination with Maintenance Supervisor and/or Maintenance Manager. (Contact Safety Manager for more details)
- Clean up of containment areas, leaks, and minor spills in a timely manner
- May be asked to assist contractors /vendors with tasks or projects as appropriate.
- May be required to assist in training of new hires and On-The Job training as an appropriate SME.
