Peterson Chemical Technology LLC, is searching for a Laboratory Sr. Manager to help support our Specialty Foam team. Did you know we are a global leader in foam technology? That’s right! As a Laboratory Sr. Manager, you will have the opportunity to leverage your passion for science to drive product innovation and deliver compelling new products for the polyurethane foam and bedding markets. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by managing an established team of experts to continue our path of leading the world in comfort foam technology. As a lab Sr. Manager, you will collaborate with many highly capable teams within Leggett & Platt to learn and to help integrate technologies for comfort science. You will also interface with raw material suppliers, foam and bedding customers, and retail companies, to learn about industry needs, share our innovations, and help formulate paths forward to advance comfort technology. The team you would lead is a diverse group of experienced chemists and engineers that affectionately call themselves “The Foam Nerds”. We have a very friendly and supportive group that keeps the environment light, but also loves a challenge. They take pride in their work and strive to delight our customers every day.  

 

So, what will you be doing as a Laboratory Sr. Manager?

•    A key responsibility for the Lab Sr. Manager is to plan and manage projects for the R&D and Technical Service teams, providing a clear vision for goals and timing.

•    A successful Laboratory Sr. Manager will be curious and creative, working closely with the team to develop new polyols, additives, and other intermediates for flexible polyurethane foam.

     While management is a key function, the Sr. Manager will also be a driver for new ideas and chemistry, working side-by-side in the laboratory with team members.

•    Internal and external promotion of new products and concepts is critical for success. The Lab Sr. Manager will interface with sales, marketing, and other R&D groups within the L&P family,

      and with customers, to develop, refine and deploy new technologies. The Lab Sr. Manager should be comfortable with communications, and occasional public speaking.

•    The Sr. Manager will be responsible for providing a safe and inspiring work environment where team members can be comfortable, motivated, open, and supportive.

 

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
•    A BS degree, preferably in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Polymer Science
•    A minimum of 5 yrs. experience in polyurethane technology
•    Strong laboratory skills for working safely and effectively in a chemistry lab 
•    Curiosity and creativity, with a productive background in product development 
•    Excellent oral and written communication skills 
•    Comfortability with data analysis and critical thinking
•    The ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced work environment 
•    Team-building skills for internal and external collaboration
•    An energetic and enthusiastic personality with a passion for learning 

 

Things we consider a plus:
•    A mechanical aptitude 
•    A background in PU foam and/or polyols or isocyanates for flexible foam
