Peterson Chemical Technology LLC, a Leggett & Platt company, is searching for an Assistant Pour Line Manager to help support our Specialty Foam team. As an Assistant Pour Line Manager Engineer, you will have the opportunity to do hands on work with our diverse team of chemists, engineers, and other mechanically minded individuals for products going to market in the bedding industry.
This position includes a 6–12-month apprenticeship at our Ft. Smith, AR location before transferring full-time to one of two locations at Elite Comfort Solutions (Conover, NC or Verona, MS) for further on-the-job training to assist and eventually lead the operation of a foam machine.
So, what will you be doing as an Assistant Pour Line Manager Engineer?
- Design and conduct experiments for lab preparations of flexible foams
- Physical and analytical testing of polyurethane foam and components
- Use standards-based methods to evaluate problems empirically and interpret findings
- Data procurement, recording, retention, and reporting
- Data Analysis and report generation in Microsoft Office Programs
- Observe all safety procedures and policies
- Review formulation sheet provided by supervisor to produce polyurethane foam
- Operate computerized panel board, cut off saw and relieve other operators
- Mix chemical formulations
- Responsible for following environmental and DOT guidelines
- Follow established procedures in maintaining production equipment
- Responsible for process control
- Responsible for inspecting conveyor and pour machine from beginning to end as well as clean up
- Assist with dissembling, cleaning and reassembling the equipment
- Operate metal cutting saw / pipe threader as needed
- Operate hoist as needed
- Eligible to train as a Hazmat Team Member responding to and cleaning up chemical spills if they occur following written guidelines of the Hazardous response Procedures
- Clean and maintain respirator when needed in required area according to respirator program guidelines.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- GED or High School diploma
- Good mechanical aptitude
- Enthusiasm for on-the-job training around the basics of flexible foam chemistry
- Strong skills for working safely and effectively
- Abilit to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills
- Patience, determination, and a propensity for critical thinking and problem solving
Things we consider a plus:
- Bachelor of Science, preferably in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, etc.) Chemistry
Physics
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in a manufacturing facility.
- Basic understanding of polymer chemistry
- Comfortable with data analysis and report generation in Microsoft Excel
