Job Title: Switch Driver
Position Classification: Hourly – Non-Exempt
Job Summary: The Switcher Driver drives a tractor-trailer on company property backing in trailers to the correct loading dock. This driver never drives on public roads.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Education & Experience:
Must be at least 18 years of age to perform this job. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
o Checks schedule and receives assignment from supervisor.
o Drives switcher tractor in a safe manner.
o Locates trailer by trailer number and property attaches (air brakes, etc) to the switcher tractor
o Backs trailers into dock or unloading area as instructed by lead person or supervisor.
o Gets out of the tractor and opens or closes the trailer doors.
o May put seals on trailer door after closing
o Uses a two-way radio to communicate with others concerning moving trailers.
o Check oil, fuel, tires, batteries, etc. on vehicle and report any defects to supervisor
o Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
· Valid Driver’s License required.
· Previous tractor driving experience.
· Follow verbal instructions and use simple math.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· Ability to read, write and comprehend information, reports instructions, correspondence and memos.
· Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed or oral instructions.
· Attendance/Punctuality - Is consistently at work and on time.
· Quality - Demonstrates accuracy and thoroughness; maintains a clean and organized work environment.
· Quantity - Meets productivity standards; Completes work in timely manner; Strives to increase productivity.
· Safety - Observes all safety procedures and policies; Reports potentially unsafe conditions to supervisor; Uses equipment and materials properly.
· Good attention to detail.
· Able to work accurately from verbal and written instructions.
