Financial Accounting Intern

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., have an opening for a non-seasonal Financial Accounting Intern in our Segment Reporting Department.  As a global-diversified manufacturing company, it’s sometimes hard to explain all the different things we do.  We like to say, “we’re the biggest company no one has ever heard of.”  We are confident you interact with one of our products in your daily life without knowing it.  Whether it’s the mattress you sleep on, the car you drive, the plane you fly on, or the furniture you sit on, our high-quality components are there supporting you. 


This position will work at least 20 hours per week during the school year, with the possibility of additional hours.  The internship will provide hands-on experience with the company’s accounting systems and will allow the individual to gain an understanding of the company’s operations.


So, what will you be doing as a Financial Accounting Intern?

  • Prepare and analyze accounts to ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Assist in the preparation of the company’s consolidated financial statements and internal management reports
  • Other various projects which can include assisting in the preparation of the company’s shareholder reports, assisting outside auditors with analyses of accounts, and day-to-day contact with division accounting staffs, operating managers and other corporate staff departments   


To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • Must be a college student seeking a bachelor or master’s degree in accounting, with an anticipated graduation date no earlier than December 2022
  • Completed a minimum of 3 hours in accounting courses
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other Office products
  • Willingness to take initiative


Things we consider a plus:

  • GPA of 3.3 or higher
  • Ability to work independently
  • Completion of 6+ hours in accounting courses
