Corporate Development Manager

Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our Corporate Development team.  This highly visible and impactful team is responsible for helping to develop company and business unit strategy; as well as leading M&A activities in support of those strategies.  This role will report to the Vice President of Corporate Development and Financial Planning.  


To be successful you must be comfortable performing a wide range of responsibilities from thinking broadly to executing detailed tasks and have a track record that demonstrates sound judgement, strong personal initiative and the determination required to thrive in a challenging role that involves complex situations and frequent ambiguity.


What you’ll be doing:

  • Partner with business leaders to develop strategies to grow and enhance the competitive position of their businesses.  Identify acquisition opportunities that support those strategies.
  • Evaluate potential new growth platforms.  Conduct rigorous market and competitive analysis to develop a point of view on attractiveness, strategic fit and how to build out the platform.
  • Lead the evaluation and execution of M&A transactions including strategic analysis, valuation, due diligence, documentation, and integration planning.  This requires significant coordination of cross functional teams of internal resources and external advisors.
  • Communicate analysis and recommendations that help drive decisions to the executive leadership team and board of directors.


What you’ll need:

  • Experience analyzing and valuing companies and executing M&A transactions
  • Excellent understanding of finance and accounting
  • Interpersonal skills to build relationships across all levels of the organization and the professional presence to represent the company in negotiations with acquisition targets and other external parties
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to develop compelling arguments and confidently and concisely present analysis and recommendations to senior leadership
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and competing priorities


What we’re looking for:

  • 5-10 years experience, preferably in corporate development, investment banking, or management consulting
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting or a related field
  • MBA or CFA preferred


Location:  The location for this position is flexible.  Most of our Corporate Development team is based out of Leggett & Platt’s corporate office in Carthage, MO, however, the position could also work remotely or out of another Leggett & Platt location.
