Commodity Manager- Plastic Components & Raw Material

We at Leggett & Platt Automotive are looking for a Commodity Manager-Plastic Components & Raw Material to join our growing Automotive Team at our facility in Windsor, ON. We are a multi-billion-dollar globally diversified company that designs and manufactures various engineered components and products. Our growing automotive business unit, which exceeds one billion dollars in sales, is comprised of four main product segments with operations on three continents. Our customers include OEM and Tier 1 automotive companies.

 

In this role, you will report to the Category Manager-Specialized Products. The Commodity manager is responsible for global strategy development, deployment, and execution. The commodity manager will develop comprehensive plans to deliver the lowest overall total cost of externally sourced production material. They will ensure mutually beneficial relationship are developed and maintained with LPA supplier partners. The commodity manager will benchmark industry best practices and leverage for LPAs benefit.

What you will be doing?

  • Lead the development of global procurement strategies for Plastic components and raw materials ensuring year-over-year improvements in cost and quality.
  • Support ongoing business and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with cross-functional leadership to establish mutual goals that align with strategic plans.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key internal stakeholders; secure cross functional buy-in to Commodity strategies, develop comprehensive communication and execution plans.
  • Execute contracts reflecting the results of sourcing initiatives that adequately manage business and supply risks with appropriate legal terms and conditions.
  • Foster performance-based relationship with external suppliers; monitor all risks within the commodity supply base; adapt the procurement strategies for mitigation actions.
  • Identify cost and value improvement areas within the commodity and implement actions to address such areas.
  • Support regional productivity actions related to Plastic commodity based on the global material spend, evaluate the feasibility of the productivity ideas and ensure the implementation.
  • Consolidate global activities related to the commodity. Ensure implementation of the Plastic commodity strategy in all regions.
  • Track productivity progress on monthly basis, in coordination with Regional Procurement controllers.

 

We're looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in financial or technical discipline, Master preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years in a Category/commodity management position, or related experience, with global responsibilities.
  • Experience in a Manufacturing environment, Automotive experience preferred.  
  • Demonstrated experience in building cost models to understand should cost, and how to apply the knowledge to achieve results.
  • Highly analytical with solid communication, interpersonal, written and verbal skills.
  • Highly motivated and able to work in fast-paced environment.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, Power Point, and Systems Database/Query Capability.
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication and training skills.
  • Strong business and financial acumen.
  • Strong team building and talent growth and development skills.
