Summer Tax Intern

Date: Sep 23, 2022

Location: Carthage, MO, US

Company: Leggett & Platt

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Summer Tax Intern within our Tax Department to help support our business.  As a global-diversified manufacturing company, it’s sometimes hard to explain all the different things we do.  We like to say, “we’re the biggest company no one has ever heard of.”  We are confident you interact with one of our products in your daily life without knowing it.  Whether it’s the mattress you sleep on, the car you drive, the plane you fly on, or the furniture you sit on, our high-quality components are there supporting you.

If you are looking to gain real accounting experience while you are in school, then this is the internship for you!  Our internships are not clerk positions. We provide the opportunity for you to gain real tax and accounting professional experience.

Candidates must be able to commit to work at least 20 hours per week, preferably up to 40 hours per week, during the summer months (late-May through early-August).  This is not a remote position and requires availability to work in a professional office setting located at our Corporate Headquarters in Carthage, Missouri.

So, what will you be doing as a Summer Tax Intern?

  • Assist with corporate income tax compliance including tax returns, extensions, estimated tax payments, and income tax accounting
  • Tax research and special projects
  • Identify, research, and assess various tax issues while also providing information to senior staff members
  • Respond to inquiries from the IRS and other taxing authorities

To be successful in this role, you’ll need:

  • On track to graduate with an undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (preferably December 2023 or later)
  • Some experience with Microsoft Excel
  • Completion of at least one college level accounting course

Things we consider a plus:

  • Candidates with a GPA of at least 3.5 and the completion of a college-level accounting course will be given preference
  • Ability to work both independently and alongside teammates
  • Willingness to take initiative
  • Strong organization skills
