Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is seeking a Shop Supervisor Product Engineering in its Research and Development group at the IDEA Center in Carthage, Missouri. The IDEA Center produces corporate innovations and supports Leggett & Platt businesses by strengthening their products capabilities. This position will report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and will assist with multiple projects for the R&D group.   

 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of shop technicians in addition to the Fab shop/Machine shop workflows
  • Ensure all Fab shop and Machine shop equipment is in working order
  • Manage the building of engineering prototypes, samples, test fixtures, and tooling
  • Schedule all builds and tasks for the shop floor following project timelines and deadlines.
  • Ensure a safe work environment and implement policies that encourage safety for all employees.
  • Work with engineers and project managers to understand the scope of a project and assist them in creating prototypes and/or sales sample builds.
  • Prioritize workloads and demands for employees to get work completed on-time and correctly.
  • Always be quality conscious and demonstrate a commitment to quality.   
  • Develop work instructions for new product assemblies

 

Requirements

  • Degree or relevant experience
  • Vocational welding training at an accredited learning institution a plus
  • Must be able to read and understand engineering prints
  • Woodworking and machining steel parts experience, a plus
  • Ability to use desktop PCs and office software
  • Experience with micrometers, calipers, or measuring tape
  • Ability to regularly lift or move up to 50 pounds
  • 3 years shop or manufacturing management experience

  • Oral and written communication skills, including the ability to present information to internal groups and customers
  • Displays original thinking and creativity, is resourceful and a problem-solver
  • Shows accuracy and thoroughness, attention to detail
  • Demonstrates initiative and willingness to help others
  • Very familiar with welding and manual machining techniques and strong print reading skills.
  • Strong R & D background and manufacturing background.
