Product Engineer

Leggett & Platt, Inc. is seeking a Product Engineer for our Product Development team in the Adjustable Bed Division.  In this role, you will participate in project teams to generate new concepts, develop prototypes, validate solutions, release parts to production and support production launch process.  You will have the opportunity to engage with many areas of the business unit including sales, manufacturing, supply chain, and customer support.  This position can be located either in our Lenexa, KS or Carthage, MO offices.

 

What you’ll do:

  • Develop electromechanical systems for the motion furniture industry from concept, 3D modeling, prototype procurement, validation testing, and support of production launch processes
  • Participate in cross-functional project teams and ensure deliverables are executed on time to meet project schedule milestones
  • Drive modular design architecture for electronics and mechanical systems to meet cost, manufacturability and quality elements
  • Collaborate with suppliers to develop new concepts, systems, and apply new materials
  • Perform machine design and stress analysis using experimental and computational FEA tools
  • Ensure proper fit and function through tolerance and stack up analysis of part designs
  • Review regulatory standards and support test laboratory certification of products
  • Develop test equipment, fixtures, and procedures as needed to model real-world customer use cases
  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) and optimize designs to ensure robust design solutions
  • Support complete system level and component level testing to validate reliability
  • Analyze warranty and usage data to identify opportunities for product improvement
  • Present proposals and results to project teams, senior leadership, and key account representatives

 

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
  • At least 2 years of product engineering experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency with 3D CAD software tools, preferably SolidWorks and Product Data Management (PDM) software tools, preferably SolidWorks PDM Pro.
  • Demonstrated experience in many of the listed responsibilities
  • A willingness to travel domestically and internationally, at times with limited notice
