We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Product Development (Shop) Technician within our Bedding Group Product Development team to help support our bedding business. As a Product Development (Shop) Technician, you will have the opportunity to work on prototype products for customer samples and product performance testing. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by directly contributing to the research and development of new bedding products. The team you will be working with is innovative and collaborative, and values the challenging work and diversity of thought.

 

So, what will you be doing as a Product Development (Shop) Technician?

  • Build and assemble prototype products for customer samples and product performance testing
  • Verify all samples have been checked to ensure quality
  • Keep work area clean, safe, and organized
  • Store raw materials in proper floor or rack locations
  • Assist the product development expeditor as needed with loading, unloading, and storage of product
  • Build shipping containers to send to customers
  • Follow all written procedures and work instructions (verbal or written) from supervisor and other members of management
  • Conform and adapt to new tasks as they arise in an R&D prototype shop
  • Possibility of travel depending on the nature/outcome of certain projects
  • Perform other duties as requested or as deemed appropriate

 

To be successful in this role, you'll need:

  • Ability to accurately read a tape measure, calipers, micrometer, etc.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to operate a pallet jack (fork truck operation is a plus)
  • Ability to work well with others
  • Proficiency in filling out necessary paperwork and data collection procedures on a PC
  • Ability to operate basic hand power tools (drills, saws, radial arm saw, band saw, table saw, etc.)
  • Ability to read prints and drawings
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
  • Detail-oriented mindset
  • Self-starter attitude with ability to work effectively and efficiently under minimal supervision
  • Valid MO class F driver's license to operate a company vehicle as necessary

 

Things we consider a plus:

  • Excellent mechanical skills including welding and machining
  • E License for driving department box truck
