We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Manufacturing Lab Technician within our operations team to help support our bedding business. As a Manufacturing Lab Technician you will have the opportunity to assist in transitioning products into production by maintaining detailed records, providing manufacturability feedback, and supporting equipment improvement initiatives. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by supporting US Spring product development by producing and documenting sample coils and units. The team you will be working with is collaborative and close knit, and values challenging work and diversity of thought.
So, what will you be doing as a Manufacturing Lab Technician?
- Set up machines and create recipes for product development samples.
- Perform changeovers and adjust setups to meet design intent.
- Document tooling, machine settings, recipes, quality checks, and observations in a retraceable format linked to development project numbers.
- Provide feedback to improve product manufacturability, cost, and quality.
- Maintain lab equipment to meet performance, quality, and safety requirements.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic issues.
- Assemble and overhaul machines or components.
- Program and troubleshoot computer-based control systems.
- Support TPM initiatives, identify PM needs, and assist in part rebuilding.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment in accordance with 6S standards.
- Ensure all safety devices and machine guards are in place and functional.
- Train employees on equipment operation and maintenance.
- Support EOJT (Essential On-the-Job Training) activities.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives such as ISO 9001:2015, TPM, ECO, and L&P projects.
- Demonstrate leadership skills and the ability to lead the lab team when needed.
To be successful in this role, you’ll need:
- Demonstrated ability to read engineering drawings and quality specifications and translate them into coil and unit setups.
- Experience with complex production equipment, including- Spuhl P450 and 460 coilers and PA 494 assembler.
- Understanding of mechanical/electrical schematics and related math calculations.
- Proficient with maintenance tools, ultrasonic welding, and knowledge of wire forming.
- Strong troubleshooting skills with willingness to learn control systems.
- Good communication and teamwork capabilities.
- Ability to stand and walk continuously; frequent bending, reaching, and climbing on equipment.
- Use of hands for detangling wire, pulling coils, and handling tools or baskets.
- Lift, push, and pull up to 75 lbs as needed.
- Adequate vision and hearing to detect quality issues and operate machinery safely.
