Leggett and Platt Incorporated, is seeking an Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Regional Manager. This role will be responsible for Environmental Health and Safety oversight over 15 locations. Reporting to the Domestic Bedding Products Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), this person will work with internal company functions and appropriate external safety management service providers, such as insurance carriers, brokers and consultants, to ensure that EHS best practices and processes are adhered to.

 

This role will also coordinate with the company’s claims management and risk management functions to foster a strong, safety-focused culture throughout the company and to ensure risk controls are in place to reduce or eliminate the frequency and severity of future claims to reduce the company’s total cost of risk.

 

Located in either Carthage-MO, Ennis-TX, or Winchester-KY.

What will you be doing?

  • Design and implement programs to enhance EHS protocols at assigned Leggett & Platt (L&P) locations, including behavioral safety and regulatory compliance programs, to help the company lower its total cost of risk and continuously improve performance.
  • Advise local plant leadership on how they can improve EHS practices, workplace safety, and the safety culture.
  • Coordinate with leadership, locally and across the business, on EHS related capital budget items, including helping to create business case for their acquisition.
  • Develop ergonomic protocols for L&P locations.
  • Develop and oversee EHS training to employees.
  • Develop meeting agenda and conduct regular EHS meetings local managers, supervisors and employees.
  • Oversee the incident/accident investigation process, including identification of root cause, and ensure that local managers, supervisors and employees are properly trained to conduct investigations, develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.
  • Record applicable information in L&P tracking software systems.
  • Ensure Safety Alerts are prepared and promptly shared with all L&P locations.
  • Establish a local safety self-audit program, train appropriate personnel how to audit, and perform periodic reviews to ensure compliance.
  • Regularly review workers compensation and other local claims to determine accident trends and root causes and develop accident prevention initiatives based on these analyses.
  • Interpret and answer basic EHS, EPA, OSHA, and other regulatory compliance questions.
  • Be the internal “go to” person for all questions related to EHS and maintain the knowledge required to be a subject matter expert in EHS management; this includes keeping abreast of changes in laws and regulations affecting L&P operations.
  • Collaborate with the management, supervisors and other operations personnel to identify, quantify, and analyze claims data and causal information so that future claims can be reduced, in terms of both frequency and severity, primarily through appropriate operational procedures, safeguards, and behavior, and through loss prevention initiatives.
  • Regularly participate in “open items” meetings with internal and external colleagues associated with the risk management and insurance program to ensure that performance deadlines are being achieved and that initiatives are moving forward as desired

We are looking for someone with:

  • Minimum 5-7 years of experience overseeing environmental/safety/loss prevention efforts.
  • Manufacturing, distribution, and consumer product EHS experience a plus.
  • Proven success in improving leading and lagging EHS indicators.
  • CSP or similar professional designation a plus.
  • Extensive knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
  • Proficient in technology and equipment used in EHS inspections.
  • Ability to present materials to large audiences.
  • Preferred expertise in one or more of the following:
    • Industrial Hygiene
    • Ergonomic evaluations
    • Fire Protection Systems - NFPA 13
    • Compliance Permitting
    • Corporate Responsibility and Sustainability – GRI 403
  • Ability to travel to various locations, 30% travel.
