Controls Engineer Intern- GSG

We, at Leggett & Platt Inc., are searching for a Controls Engineer Intern within our Machinery Division team to help support our Bedding business. As a Controls Engineer Intern, you will have the opportunity to design, program, and review product designs to ensure they meet quality standards. Your contributions will have a direct impact on the business by coordinating with the departments demands, projects, and risk management functions to foster a robust and strong culture throughout the department. The team you will be working with is close knit and collaborative, and values attention to detail, collaboration, and thorough communication.


Essential Responsibilities

  • Design electrical circuits and build prototypes to prove concepts
  • Program various PLCs (i.e. Phoenix, IDEC, A-B, Mitsubishi, etc.)
  • Program in IEC 61131
  • Knowledgeable in servo sizing and selection
  • Knowledgeable in designing and programming coordinated motion systems
  • Perform engineering calculations
  • Review product design for compliance with electrical engineering principles
  • Knowledge of UL, NEC, NFPA, and CE standards


  • Working towards Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering (BSEE)
  • Demonstrated experience in many of the listed responsibilities
  • Communicate and interact effectively with co-workers, customers, and suppliers

Desired Skills

  • Hands on experience in troubleshooting servo systems, electro-mechanical systems, test engineering
  • Ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Ability to communicate technical information to non-technical departments
  • Self-motivated, organized, attentive to detail.
